We’d expand our Employability & Independence Programme for women who've experienced multiple disadvantage including gender-based violence, from north to south London. Using baking as a tool we combine training, support work & employment pathways, breaking cycles of poverty, violence & disadvantage.

In London, women are: more likely to be living in poverty, disproportionately hit by the rise cost of living rise; more likely to be in low-paid jobs, worrying about unemployment & unable to make ends meet; more likely to fall behind on bills and skipped meals, they’re the ‘shock absorbers’ of poverty; be experiencing high levels of abuse and violence - support services are reporting unprecedented levels of women coming forward to report abuse. We’d expand our successful Camden programme to Lewisham. Women learn to bake, starting with simple recipes, progress to complex ones as skills & confidence grow, gain a qualification to work in hospitality. They explore employment: career goals, budgeting, relationships at work, writing CVs & applications. We’d offer mentoring, holistic support, & real life local work experience. Ultimately we’d create a base in Lewisham, which has London’s third highest domestic abuse related crime rate.
