We support the education of children of all ages from the poorest families in south Nepal. We fund community learning centres that offer an entry point to mainstream education, pay bursaries that allow completion of sixth form college and, for the first time, in 2026 we will offer university grants.

Children from the poorest, lowest caste, families lack the confidence to join education in the first place and face high school drop-out rates as they cannot be supported by parents who are often illiterate. Those that do remain at school and who pass the challenging Grade 10 exams are often unable to proceed to sixth form college because of family poverty and due to pressure on girls to marry early. Education fees prevent nearly all from going to university and realising their full potential.

We have been building and operating Community Learning Centres (CLCs) that provide an unthreatening entry point to mainstream community schools (that we also support with revenue costs). Once children join school, the CLC continues to support with help with homework and non-formal education that reduces the risk of drop-outs and child marriage. We pay bursaries to children to allow them to complete sixth form college and, from 2026, for the first time, will pay university grants and fees.
