One in five of us will experience sight loss. At RNIB, we don’t accept that this limits people – especially when it comes to reading. Since our first Talking Book in 1935, people with sight loss have been using our service to listen to books to explore, connect and relax.

Losing your sight can cause anxiety and isolation. People with vision impairment are three times more likely to experience poor mental health. For people with sight loss, finding their next read can be a challenge. Most published books will never make it into an accessible format and for people with low or no sight, audiobooks can be hard to access and expensive. This creates barriers to learning, limiting opportunities to spark imaginations and boost wellbeing.
RNIB’s Talking Books is the original audiobook service and remains the only one fully accessible to blind and partially sighted people. Our library members have the choice of over 53,000 Talking Books, recorded in our studios by professional narrators and available in their own home, in their choice of format, free of charge. Readers can ring our Helpline for tech support or to request a volunteer to visit them. You can help us celebrate 90 years of Talking Books by supporting this appeal.
