Every 12 mins someone dies of sepsis. It’s a life-threatening reaction to infection which could affect up to 1.5 million in the UK annually. Anyone can get sepsis but children, the elderly, those in poverty & those with weak immune systems are most at risk. We fund vital research & raise awareness.

Sepsis is a global problem that can affect anyone. It occurs when the body harms its own tissues & organs & is often the final pathway for critically ill patients, regardless of initial diagnosis. Rising antibiotic resistance makes infections harder to treat. Despite its prevalence its biology is poorly understood. It crosses medical specialties & hides behind diverse symptoms. Awareness, rapid diagnosis & fast treatment are vital to prevent life-changing complications or death.
We are the UK’s largest charity dedicated to funding sepsis research to save lives & improve outcomes for patients. We support scientific & healthcare studies to deepen understanding, develop better diagnostics & treatments & reduce the impact of sepsis to prevent deaths. Patient involvement shapes our work, supported by advocacy & awareness raising.
