Mental health challenges are increasing and services are overwhelmed, average waiting times of 12-18 months is too long and too late. Young People in Kendal have voiced frustration with being “done to,” felt disconnected and discriminated against due to difficult-to-access services. Some foregoing services, downplaying their needs, for those they perceive to be more vulnerable. We believe each young person’s mental health journey is unique and those lived experience should shape the approach.
Our solution is co-designing and implementing personalised and cost-efficient mental health services that listen and respond to each young person’s individual mental health journey. We will provide counselling for those that need it the most and continue to deliver our community-based peer service provision in schools and in community centres. We are Volunteer and youth-led with Young Board members and a Youth Worker who has come through our service and is due to complete training this Spring.
