Pine marten, once the 2nd commonest carnivore in Britain was by 1915 the 2nd rarest. This century conservation work has started help them recover. To do this work in the right places we need up-to-date distribution information and a method to engage people who may sight elusive martens . And to understand more about peoples views of pine martens in order to better support them to live together.

A citizen science survey where people feed in sightings is the most effective way to gather basic distribution data on a widespread species. E.g. last year our national polecat survey had 1900 records submitted A month long public survey to gather data -sightings of pine martens and public views on pine martens. People will be supported to report their sightings, and views on pine martens. As martens are less widespread but easier to record than polecats we can expect a good level of returns.
