SUVs are taking over Scottish streets, making them less safe, more congested, and worse for the climate. We’ll work with councils, communities, and government to target large vehicles, reclaim space for people, and back Scotland’s traffic reduction plans.

SUVs are increasingly common in Scottish cities, taking up disproportionate space, increasing emissions, and slowing public transport. Marketed as safe and convenient, these larger cars impose hidden costs: endangering children and vulnerable users, damaging streets, and consuming more resources to build and maintain. Without action, their growth undermines public health, safety, and city-specific climate and traffic targets.
We will use community engagement, communications, and local authority collaboration to build support for policies that target SUV size and weight. Activities will include workshops, briefings, social media campaigns, and local on-street polling to inform and communicate the appetite for traffic reduction, particularly for larger vehicles.
