Spires is tackling the rising homelessness crisis facing newly granted refugees in London. We provide tailored support to refugees to secure safe homes, access healthcare and build long-term stability in the UK. With your help, we aim to support 100 refugees into housing this year.

Spires has seen an increase in refugees experiencing homelessness or at risk of being homeless attending our services. In 2024, 116 people used our refugee-focused housing support service in Croydon. In 2025, that number rose to 161. We anticipate we will see at least 200 refugees in 2026. This is reflective of the emerging homelessness crisis among refugees in the UK which has seen a five-fold increase since 2021 in the number of refugee households who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Spires works with refugees to secure suitable long-term housing after they have received eviction notices from Home Office. Spires staff collaborate with clients to create support plans that are tailored to their needs to find housing, access mental and physical health services, obtain training and employment opportunities, and maintain benefits. As refugees, they have particular support needs as they had fled unsafe environments, often endured traumatic journeys and face language barriers here.
