Children growing up in poverty in London face entrenched barriers to sport, learning and enrichment. Pupils from low-income backgrounds are 11% less likely to participate in sport, rising to 23% for children with SEND. The attainment gap has widened since 2020, reaching 4.6 months by age five and 19.2 months by GCSE, while only 22% of low-income pupils ever access private tutoring. Poverty is limiting children’s wellbeing, attainment and future prospects.
We tackle the impact of poverty on children in London through fully funded sport and education programmes delivered with schools and community partners in high-deprivation areas. Our Inclusive Activity Programme provides in-school coaching and open-access community activities, removing cost barriers to participation. Our Educational Enrichment Programme delivers small-group tuition and enrichment to support learning. Working with trusted partners, we improve wellbeing, confidence and attainment.
