This campaign tackles the extremely low Primary School completion rate for girls in Nebbi District, Uganda (6%), a situation worsened by limited livelihood skills & opportunities for out-of-school girls & young women. With 46% of the population living in extreme poverty, income pressures & harmful gender norms create barriers for girls completing school. Underage marriage is common, and 39% become mothers within a year of leaving school, deepening inequality and poverty.

Building on an established model of support in the area, this project takes a 2-prong approach to this challenge. Firstly, by training, certifying & equipping out-of-school girls in tailoring, business, & life skills; and secondly working closely with schoolgirls at risk of dropping out, supporting & encouraging them to continue in education. This latter strand is delivered alongside community advocacy campaigns promoting education to challenge gendered societal norms.
