Access to free, relevant and accessible bereavement and grief support in the UK is hugely lacking, and the impact can be life-changing for grievers. Almost 1/3 of persons seeking our services have no other form of support and almost 2/3 cannot afford private therapy or support. Bereavement is rarely a standalone issue and can affect and exasperate mental ill-health, isolation, financial difficulties, family conflict, ability to work, reduced self-care and suicidality/self-harm.
Provision of free and accessible peer support meetings serving a diverse range of grief experiences, communities and identities, facilitated by trained volunteers with lived experience. Peer support is evidenced to increase protective factors such as connectedness, community, recovery, hope and wellbeing, which reduces the prevalence of suicide. Participant: “I literally feel like it’s saved my life, I depend on attending the meetings regularly to keep me going.”
