16-25s in Birmingham are facing social isolation and a lack of opportunity, impacting their wellbeing. 1 in 10 young people in Birmingham are NEET (not in education, employment or training), this profoundly impacts their mental health due to an absence of routine, purpose, and social interaction which regular work or training often provides. In fact, 57% of young people in the West Midlands already feel anxious about their future, and over 20% say they feel lonely often, always or sometimes.
We will deliver creative training opportunities to young people in Birmingham. 16-25s will work with professional artists over 40+ sessions to co-create artistic work built from their interests: from dance and poetry to rap and grime. Each project will result in a public display/performance. Young people will work alongside their peers, reducing isolation, and gaining soft skills (e.g. communication, problem-solving) throughout; transferable to other areas of their lives such as employment.
