Minoritised young people face systemic barriers to music education, especially in Camden, one of England’s most ethnically diverse boroughs where 42% live in households with income lower than the UK average (Trust for London) and 41% of 11-16s are eligible for free school meals (Census 2021). Alongside this, chronic underfunding in state schools disproportionately impacts low-income, Global Majority young people, restricting access to skills, networks, and developing their creative potential.

We’ll partner with 2 Camden schools in areas ranking in the top 15% of the most deprived in England to deliver co-designed assemblies and workshops, ensuring at least 50% of workshop participants are racially minoritised or eligible for the Pupil Premium. Professional musicians will share their journeys, challenge perceptions, and model what careers in music are possible. We know Future Sound works: in 2025, one partner school saw KS3 music uptake rise from 8 to 18 students (a 125% increase).
