Oxford is renowned for academic excellence at university level - however, our local children experience some of the worst educational inequality in the country. Children in Oxford on free school meals are 20% less likely than their peers to reach expected levels in literacy and maths, and less than half as likely to go to university. These are some of the widest educational attainment gaps in the country. 11 of Oxford’s neighbourhoods are among the nation’s 10% most educationally deprived.
Schools Plus creates free learning spaces where at-risk children thrive. Through 1:1 and small group Tutoring, children enjoy fun, personalised learning: growing confidence, aspirations, and enthusiasm for learning. Learners meet a volunteer tutor for 1 hour a week for 3+ months. We tutor Years 3-13 across all subjects. Our Twinning Programme links 10 Oxford University colleges with 10 local schools for enrichment activities: showing pupils that university can be fun, exciting and attainable.
