Sharks and rays face increasing threats, with one third of all species threatened with extinction. Many species grow slowly, mature late, and produce a few young - meaning their populations can take decades to recover once in decline. Across the world, sharks and rays are impacted by overfishing, both targeted and accidental (bycatch), climate change, pollution and habitat destruction. Due to the loss of these species, ecosystems lose balance and resilience - compromising ecosystem health.

MARECO works at the point where conservation becomes action: turning research into policy change and practical protections. We know collaboration, stakeholder engagement, education and raising awareness are essential to build long-term community support. This campaign will raise unrestricted funds, allowing us to invest where need and opportunity are greatest - supporting research, conservation delivery, project coordination, communications, policy development and capacity building.
