Poverty affects every area of child development, shaping daily life and future prospects. For already traumatised refugee and immigrant children reunited with family in London, it creates overwhelming barriers: unstable housing, hunger, poor health, academic struggle and social exclusion. Many families cannot cope, leaving children at risk of homelessness or facing a childhood in care - last year, London Councils reported that a third of young people leaving care had arrived here unaccompanied.
CFAB tackles child poverty by giving reunited refugee and migrant families the support they are routinely denied. We provide London’s only specialist, trauma‑informed social work service dedicated to these families. Our award‑winning team ensures access to benefits, healthcare, schooling and safe housing. Over 3–6 months, this tailored practical guidance, combined with emotional and therapeutic support, helps families break the cycle of poverty so children can settle, recover and thrive.
