We hope to raise funds to support our vital day services for older people in Gateshead. We help attendees of our lunch clubs and men's groups to feel more connected and independent, less lonely and with improved mental and physical wellbeing, while providing essential respite for their loved ones.

Many older people in central and inner west Gateshead experience loneliness and isolation, and the number of communities affected by health inequality is worryingly high. Combined with grief, reduced mobility, dementia, neurodiversity, and poor wellbeing, particularly for those living alone, quality of life is significantly affected. With few local, accessible services and limited community support, vulnerability among older adults continues to grow.

Funding will support our two lunch clubs and two men’s groups every week offering hot meals and a range of wellbeing-enhancing activities in our welcoming, accessible centre, to help older people build friendships and stay active and connected. We also provide safe, accessible minibus transport from home and back again, which is vital for those who would otherwise struggle to leave the house independently. We support around 85 older people who attend up to three times per week.
