We want to continue with our project, which aims to plant at least 1000m of hedgerow in Bedfordshire - we will engage with local communities for volunteer planters, provide homes and corridors for wildlife and help tackle the climate crisis with carbon capture from plants.

The UK hedgerow network has shrunk by about 50% in the last 70 years. Hedgerows are our largest 'nature reserve' providing vital ecosystems, but are still under threat. Hedgerows have been removed, mismanaged, neglected or affected by development in the countryside. Hedge management practises that seek to minimise workload undermine the value of this essential resource for wildlife and wider society.
We will continue to plant more hedges! With our ongoing 3 year Hedgerow Heroes project we aim plant at least 3000m of hedgerow in Bedfordshire by Spring 2027. This will contribute towards the Climate Change Committee recommendation that our hedgerow network should be increased by 40% to support the UK government's goal of net-zero carbon emissions. We will purchase a range of native plants to ensure appropriate biodiversity and engage with local volunteers to support local communities.
