Every year hundreds of thousands of people enjoy woodland walks in the Peak District. But the area's native woodland is under threat from disease, development and climate change. Trees and seedlings brought in from elsewhere can be less resilient and bring with them the risk of pests. This project will fund the creation of a local nursery to ensure the secure, local propagation of native trees that will support biodiversity and help protect the character of the National Park's landscape.

We will create a new tree nursery at Ashford-in-the-Water, powered by renewable energy from the River Wye. Using locally collected seed the nursery will produce resilient native saplings in a bio-secure environment. By working with local volunteers, schools, and students to help with seed collection and growing, we will engage more people in taking action for nature - directly contributing to tree-planting, creating biodiversity corridors, flood prevention and reforestation in the Peak District.
