The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, with habitat loss, insect decline and damaged local environments driving the nature and climate crisis. While change is possible, many communities lack the skills and resources to act. Local wildlife makes this crisis tangible. Hedgehogs, one of Britain’s most loved species, are now vulnerable, with fewer than one million left. Their decline reflects wider environmental challenges and helps young people understand the urgency.

SOS UK protects nature while empowering young people to create positive change. Biodiversity underpins healthy ecosystems and wellbeing, yet access to nature is declining. We work to embed sustainability across education, with nature as a key gateway to learning. Schools can shape lifelong behaviours. Spring marks hedgehog activity, making it a timely moment for action. We deliver practical conservation and learning that supports biodiversity and inspires young people to build a greener future.
