Monthly NHS referrals for children and young people’s mental health services nearly tripled from 40,000 in 2016 to almost 120,000 in 2024 (Mind). Research shows poverty is a significant driver in poor mental health - 8–16-year-olds with a probable mental disorder were nearly 3x more likely to live in households that had fallen behind on rent, bills or mortgage (NHS Digital). More children are reaching a mental health crisis, as early intervention services struggle to meet the growing demands.

WLAC is a small, local, independent charity providing free, time-unlimited, strengths-based counselling and therapy services for children, young people and families on low incomes. Our qualified and highly experienced team of therapists offer a range of early intervention services that support clients to recognise their strengths, build confidence and resilience, and form positive relationships, supporting children, young people and families to make long-term, transformational, change.
