Habitat loss and fragmentation threaten biodiversity and are driving significant species decline in the UK. This fragmentation leads to animals being unable to cross roads, disrupts breeding and migration for many birds and butterflies, and leaves less space for larger species, resulting in greater vulnerability. Driven by urbanisation, deforestation, climate change, and more, habitats need urgent attention to put back what’s been lost and restore these fractures.

Restoring damaged or degraded habitats has time and again proved successful in enabling wildlife to recover and grow. A Rocha UK’s Partners in Action, covering over 21,000 acres, are planting native trees, repairing and maintaining wetlands, planting wildflower meadows, and removing invasive plants, all on land that is available and where the rights to manage and restore habitat already exist. We are training and supporting our 60+ partners to bring nature to normal places.
