In rural Togo, climate change threatens smallholder farmers—mostly women—through degraded soils, erratic rainfall and limited irrigation. Since 2022, Deki has supported cooperatives with finance and training, now scaling regenerative farming using biochar, solar irrigation and climate-smart skills.

Smallholder farmers in Togo, face worsening poverty as climate change drives rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, depleted soils, and limited irrigation. Heavy reliance on chemical fertilisers further degrades soil and contaminates water, resulting in poor health for families. Without access to sustainable farming tools, training, or routes to markets, farmers are trapped in cycles of poor harvests, lost income, and food insecurity, threatening their livelihoods and future resilience.

Since 2016, Deki has supported agricultural cooperatives with microfinance, training, and sustainable practices. We are now scaling impact through regenerative agriculture—shifting from chemical to organic fertilisers using biochar, piloting solar-powered irrigation, providing hands-on training, offering ethical micro-lending, and linking farmers to markets—enabling smallholders to boost yields, adapt to climate change, and secure resilient, thriving livelihoods.
