In the UK, an estimated 12 million tonnes of food is wasted each year at all levels from plough to plate whilst 4 million people are affected by food poverty. Additionally poor diet is causing multiple health conditions and loneliness is growing as a cause of low mental wellbeing.
At FoodCycle, we’re helping address these problems by making use of edible food to create nutritious three-course meals for people at risk of food poverty and loneliness through our network of 90 community meal projects across the country. Our volunteers collect food surplus from supermarkets and local shops and turn it into 3 hearty courses of food for vulnerable people to eat together.
