Breast cancer affects around 55,000 people in the UK each year, many facing complex reconstruction decisions. Emotional strain is high: 1 in 2 experience anxiety or depression, yet 21% do not receive the support they need. Cancer patients report a wellbeing score of 74/100, compared to 90/100 in the general population, leaving many feeling isolated and overwhelmed during treatment and recovery.
We plan to introduce psychological support for people facing breast cancer reconstruction, including one-to-one counselling and group sessions. This service will aim to reduce anxiety, improve emotional wellbeing, and combat isolation from diagnosis through rehabilitation. Combining professional care with peer support will help individuals make informed decisions, cope with treatment, and rebuild confidence during surgery and recovery.
