With our first permanent site we have the opportunity to grow a 1,000 year vision. The new garden in the heart of Kings Cross will be co-created by the local community through natural heritage building and crafts and provide a home for plants and local wildlife in an densely populated area.

Islington is one of the most green space deficient areas of the UK. The garden sits in the borough's most socially deprived area, is vulnerable to the adverse risks of climate change due to heavy air pollution and large scale development and construction. The area scores highest for deficiency in access to green public space and income deprivation. This particularly effects young people who feel isolated with limited opportunities to develop new skills and with poor mental health and wellbeing.

The new ecological garden will benefit people and the local environment by providing a new green space where people can come together, socialise and reconnect with nature. Young people particularly will benefit through training opportunities and skills development linked to its co-creation, gaining a sense of guardianship and achievement through taking part in this process. Local biodiversity will be enhanced through new habitat creation, a forest garden, a wildflower meadow and green roofs.
