We want to offer community-based counselling to women in Sheffield who are from cultures where silence, shame or family honour play a role in stopping them from getting help. Many of these women have childhood trauma, forced marriage or domestic abuse, sexual violence and migration related trauma.

The problem is that South Asian women who have experienced lifelong mental, physical, emotional, verbal and financial abuse are unable to access therapeutic support that reflects their culture, values and lived experiences. Mainstream mental health services are often not designed to meet their needs, resulting in low uptake of talking therapies and a disproportionate reliance on medication. As a result, mental ill-health frequently goes untreated until it reaches crisis point.

Our solution is to provide culturally rooted, Bilingual counselling that meets South Asian women where they are. Through trusted therapeutic relationships, counselling will help women feel less isolated, less burdened by shame, and better able to manage overwhelming emotions. In a safe space, women will begin to understand their experiences, soothe trauma responses, and gradually rebuild a sense of self creating lasting change and meaningful improvements in mental wellbeing.
