Help us save the North East’s internationally rare magnesian limestone meadows, home to 40 wildflower species per square metre and vital pollinators. Your gift will help Durham Wildlife Trust restore habitats, protect threatened butterflies, and inspire local communities to care for nature.

The North East’s magnesian limestone meadows are disappearing fast. Fragmentation, development pressures and changes in land use are reducing one of the world’s rarest grassland habitats. UK invertebrates have declined 13% since 1970 (18% for pollinators). Species like the Northern Brown Argus butterfly rely almost entirely on these meadows. Without action now, this unique landscape risks being lost forever.
Your donation will enable the specialist care these ultra‑rare meadows need. You’ll help enrich wildflower diversity, support vulnerable species like the Northern Brown Argus, and propagate the plants that butterflies and pollinators rely on. Your support also trains and equips more volunteers and strengthens our ability to monitor meadow health and engage people with this globally rare habitat.
