Eco Brixs tackles plastic pollution while creating jobs for marginalised communities. By paying people for the plastic they collect and recycling it into products, our model creates income opportunities while cleaning the environment. We aim to bring this model to new communities in South Uganda.

Uganda has a huge plastic problem with 600 tonnes of plastic being disposed of every day. As there are no formal waste management systems in place, this means over 90% of plastic waste ends up being burnt, buried or dumped. This puts both people’s health and the environment at risk. On top of this, unemployment is high and a quarter of the population lives in poverty, with those from marginalised communities even more likely to experience joblessness.

Eco Brixs will expand its plastic collection network to Kabale, Kasese, and the Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, establishing Recycling Hubs where communities can bring plastic, have it weighed, and be paid. Collected plastic is sent to our plant in Masaka, recycled into new products, sold, and revenue is reinvested to buy more plastic from these areas. The cycle continues – creating sustainable jobs, cleaner communities, and useful products for local people over the long term.
