The UK is one of the world’s most nature depleted countries and habitat loss is causing an urgent biodiversity crisis. The State of the UK’s Woods and Trees 2025 report shows: •a 37% decline in woodland bird species since 1970, with a 15% decline in the last 5 years alone •80 species of butterfly recorded a significant reduction in abundance The UK faces growing health challenges, including declining mental wellbeing and physical inactivity - which can be alleviated through time spent in nature.

We aim to restore nature by creating and managing species-rich habitat including grassland, wetland, heathland and woodland at Albert Village Lake. Led by our Community Ranger, volunteers will carry out conservation activities to encourage and enhance wildlife and enable native species to return. Pond creation, hedgerow restoration and reedbed development will boost ecological resilience, improve connectivity and support our aim for 30% of our land to be priority wildlife habitats by 2030.
