Tropical deforestation drives climate change & biodiversity loss, with Indigenous Peoples & forest communities bearing the greatest costs. Across rainforest regions they face insecure land rights, expanding extractive industries, exclusionary conservation & increasing risks for defending their forest home. Climate & biodiversity goals will not be achieved without justice, equity & community leadership.
RFUK’s core belief – & evidence shows – that the most effective way to protect forests is to entrust stewardship to Indigenous Peoples & local communities. Our new 2033 vision lays out how we will scale up recognition of their land & resource rights, improve access to justice, empower civil society & Indigenous movements to influence decisions & hold power to account, whilst advocating for more direct funding to frontline communities.
