“PSC represents the greatest unmet need in liver medicine,” Dr Palak Trivedi. This rare disease has no treatment to stop liver failure or aggressive cancers. 1 in 3 patients need a transplant or die within 10 years; PSC accounts for 10-15% of UK liver transplants. Patients require lifelong care, facing debilitating symptoms like itch and fatigue, and are highly susceptible to life-threatening infections and complications.
We will fund research to identify the biological triggers of PSC and the biomarkers needed for faster trials. We bridge the gap between researchers and patients, ensuring the patient voice shapes drug development and trial design. This approach improves recruitment and de-risks discovery, helping secure larger investment and accelerating the path to a cure. Our expert-led approach directly fulfils our mission: to stop disease progression and transform life for everyone affected by PSC.
