FLOW will create a new piece of music with and for people with dementia and their carers. It will be developed to offer a high quality, welcoming and inclusive artistic experience for an audience who may need the flexibility to disengage and re-engage during the duration of the performance.

As the awareness of dementia-informed practice grows, we have seen an increasing number of projects that focus simply on staff/performer awareness training, environment adjustments and adaptation of ‘standard’ performance practices for this audience. Whilst the familiar music that is invariably used is straightforward, enjoyable and resonates with many older people, FLOW will explore the potential for the "new", developmental and creative with this increasingly important underserved audience.
FLOW will be a performance environment with new, classical-style music for people living with dementia and their carers, created with the intention that audience members can dis-engage and re-engage at any point. We will work over a period of a year with people with dementia living in Methilhaven to workshop and trial sections of FLOW, incorporating their ideas and inspirations - and ultimately with them making a performance work which can be toured locally, nationally and internationally.
