Herefordshire’s landscapes, both urban and rural, face three major threats. Firstly, increasingly extreme weather caused by climate change bringing droughts on summer and flooding and wetter ground in winter. Secondly, a high proportion of land use in the county is intensively formed leaving little room for wildlife and sometimes contributing to pollution of rivers. Finally, increasing development, housing and infrastructure. These have the potential to decimate, divide or isolate habitats.

Collaborating closely with landowners and manager and communities, we will further develop landscape programmes in the Woolhope Dome, Lugg Valley and Hereford City to address these issues. These will include: Undertaking practical conservation activity to restore habitats; Supporting communities to lobby for sustainable developments; Supporting landowners with advice and practical interventions to make land more nature-friendly and climate resilient.
