Almost 40% of our seagrass habitats in the UK since the 1980’s have been destroyed due to a combination of human behaviours and disruption of the sensitive plants’ natural processes, making it one of Earth’s most endangered habitats. Seagrass is one of the most ecologically vital and biodiverse habitats on the planet; one hectare supports up to 80,000 fish and millions of invertebrates. Additionally, seagrass meadows can store carbon up to 35 times more efficiently than tropical rainforests.

With your help, we can reverse this decline by protecting the seagrass that is left and restoring the beautiful underwater meadows that have been lost. Our holistic conservation programme enables large-scale seagrass restoration, using multiple approaches including: installing marker buoys and mooring systems to protect the seabed, engaging with local communities to encourage stewardship of their local meadow, and growing and planting seagrass back into protected meadows to enhance their health.
