A new Community Growing Garden, Orchard and rare Plant Propagation area at Borde Hill will act as a living example of sustainable land use and community-led climate action. Built on biodiverse best practice, they will together demonstrate how people and nature can thrive together locally.

Across Sussex, precious green spaces like ours are increasingly under pressure from development and many local people remain disconnected from them: Here only 33% of households have adequate access to green space, and c.70% of people with disabilities struggle to access/use them. Our 3 year community consultations revealed a growing need for protected, accessible, sustainable green spaces where they can re-engage with the land and learn how to care for it through climate-friendly activities.
A new Community Growing Garden and Propagation project will offer sustainable land for community use and climate action. Located on a former farm-site, this fully accessible Garden will be designed to minimise environmental impact, using reclaimed materials and site-won timber; creating wildlife habitats/pollinator-friendly planting; space to propagate the site's rare species, and offering opportunities for our local community to learn about and implement sustainable food growing.
