The effect of long-term cuts to music education budgets in schools is dictating who can afford to pursue a career as a musician. Financial strain on Local Authorities has led to youth services and cultural budgets being cut or eliminated. Young people are the most affected, with no place to pursue their musical interests. It’s even worse for those from disadvantaged backgrounds, who face inequity in accessing music education and mentorship, and so miss out on joining a creative community,
SUMMER RUNNINGS is our free, open-access youth club for jazz musicians aged 11-25. Over 2 weeks, participants enjoy jazz development sessions, masterclasses, music industry talks, and daily jams at London's Southbank Centre. We help to bridge gaps in education, cultural and youth services, providing a safe space for high quality tuition from some of the leading lights on the UK jazz scene. Young musicians build confidence, find inspiration, join a creative community...and, importantly, have fun!
