Too often, people miss out on musical experiences due to a lack of accessibility awareness. Despite the observable benefits of live music for people with additional sensory needs, such as adults with dementia and people with learning disabilities, these groups are rarely given the opportunity to engage with music in a way that meets their needs. Following the success of our Melodic Memories programme and previous relaxed performances, we know how important it is that this work continues.

Opera North has created Melodic Memories and relaxed performances to provide equal opportunities for everyone to engage in music in a way that works for them. Our workshops are run by experienced professionals who meet the needs of participants skilfully and kindly, and our relaxed performances slightly modify the performance environment to make people feel at ease to enjoy the show without worrying about the potentially difficult formalities of concert-going.
