We have a wonderful opportunity to buy 20 acres of mixed habitat to expand our Cors y Sarnau nature reserve by 20%; step up our restoration efforts across this nationally important peatland; and create a truly special, wild wetland for nature and people alike.

Although the existing nature reserve is a wildlife haven – home to woodcock, common lizard, black darter dragonfly and nightjar – it’s constrained by its size. Wetland and wet woodland are scarce habitats, needing room to breathe and into which to expand. Cors y Sarnau is also relatively inaccessible. There’s no parking or vehicle access for visitors or volunteers, severely limiting the opportunities to bring people and wildlife together that are so essential to nature’s long-term protection.
We will acquire and manage a patchwork of naturally regenerating woodland and a strip of hydrologically linked wetland to increase the size of the reserve by 20% - supporting the well-known principles of ‘bigger, better, more joined up’. The new land will also enable us to encourage access to this complex site for the first time. We will improve visitor and volunteer car parking; run events, training sessions and family activities; and create a trail connecting up all parcels of the site.
