Madagascar is one of the world’s most critical biodiversity hotspots, with 90% of its species found nowhere else on earth. Yet this unique heritage is disappearing fast: the country ranks among the top four globally for deforestation, driven by severe rural poverty. Over 80% of rural households live on less than £1.50 a day, forcing families near forests to clear land for farming, timber, and fuel—putting both livelihoods and ecosystems at risk.
Maintaining Madagascar’s fragile ecosystems is vital for global biodiversity & climate stability but it can only be achieved by tackling local poverty. Our solution unites conservation and development by training farmers near threatened habitats in highly productive regenerative agriculture & forest restoration. Restoring degraded land into edible forests and protecting intact ecosystems secures food and income, boosts climate resilience, and empowers families to be stewards of nature.
