Ready, Steady Dance offers free weekly interactive sessions in local libraries for toddlers and pre-school children. Bringing stories to life through movement and imagination, it sparks a love of reading and dance, supports school readiness, and provides valuable bonding time with parents/carers.

The ‘Ready to learn’ report by Libraries Connected notes that ‘children get the most out of school – and enjoy it more – if they are curious about learning, able to co-operate with others and confident in communicating. There is concern, however, that the number of children starting school without these skills is growing’. Warwickshire Libraries have identified school readiness as one of the key challenges that families and schools face across the county for reception age children.
By helping the participating children build vital communication, personal-social and key motor skills, and by linking reading and books to fun activities, the project aims to encourage a love of books and reading at a young age. This supports their early literacy skills, preparing the children for their first experience of school, with potential positive impacts throughout their lives. By offering free, fun activities, the project also encourages parents/carers to attend their local library.
