Manta rays are charismatic, intelligent and enigmatic animals, threatened with extinction as a result of overfishing. Support our efforts to save the mantas through real protections: improved fisheries management, enforcement of trade restrictions and reducing bycatch.

Manta and devil rays are vital for ocean health, yet some populations have fallen by over 90% in two generations, with three of ten species now Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List. Manta and devil rays are fished at unsustainable rates for their gill plates – sold in Asian markets that are growing in value and size. An international trade ban in their products will come into effect in 2026 and we will be working hard to support its implementation to halt the decline of these species.
We take a multifaceted approach to conservation through research, education and collaboration. Our global network of 31 affiliates in 25 countries works with governments, businesses and communities to protect manta and devil rays through science-based marine management. Our goal is to turn protective legislation - the international trade ban - into action: improved fisheries management, enforcement of trade restrictions, reduced bycatch and engaging with coastal communities.
