The Sunderland Music, Arts and Culture Trust is raising funds to ensure that children and young people in Sunderland and the North East, the region with the highest proportion of children living in poverty in the UK, can access and benefit from arts and culture, regardless of background or income.

The North East has the highest proportion of children living in poverty in England. For many, opportunities to experience music, theatre or creative activity are limited by cost, confidence and lack of access. Yet arts and culture are proven to improve wellbeing, confidence, aspiration and social connection.

Every Child Deserves Culture will deliver free and low-cost cultural activity across Sunderland and the region. The programme focuses on children and young people who have not previously engaged in the arts, offering high-quality first experiences through music, theatre, dance and creative workshops. Funds raised will support inclusive events, workshops and performances, ensuring activities are accessible, locally delivered and free at the point of use wherever possible.
