Shakespeare can feel intimidating, but the OT brings it to life through vibrant, accessible workshops & performance. Each year we reach over 10,000 young people - many experiencing theatre for the first time - helping them connect with big themes, grow in confidence, and discover a love of language.

Creative education is shrinking, access to theatre is uneven, and Shakespeare’s language can often feel intimidating - causing many young people to disengage from literature. In Richmond specifically, the attainment gap is wide, meaning disadvantaged pupils fall further behind. Without creative, confidence-building experiences, too many students miss out on the chance to develop life skills that help them learn, express themselves and light the spark of imagination and creativity.
For 40 years, the Orange Tree Theatre has brought Shakespeare to life in schools through vibrant workshops and performances that make complex language clear, fun and accessible. Our actors guide students to speak the text, explore themes and build confidence. Bursaries ensure disadvantaged pupils aren’t left out. Using theatre as a tool for imagination, literacy, teamwork and oracy, we boost wider learning outcomes and help young people connect, grow and believe in their potential.
