Across North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, many children start school without access to theatre or creativity, missing the vital role they play in building language, confidence and communication. For families facing disadvantage, these first encounters with storytelling and shared imagination are often out of reach. Yet early engagement with theatre boosts school readiness, wellbeing and social development. By opening access early, we can improve children’s chances in school and beyond.

The New Vic aims to give thousands of young children their first meaningful experience of theatre & creativity when it matters most. We will offer free access to live performances, storytelling, drama & puppetry sessions, plus in-school workshops & immersive theatre for early years & primary pupils. By removing barriers and delivering high-quality creative learning, we build language, confidence & social skills, strengthen school readiness & nurture wellbeing for a more positive start in life.
