12 young people aged 14-35 die each week in the UK from an undiagnosed heart condition. 80% of these young people have no symptoms whatsoever and the first they know they have a condition is when they have died. The majority of sudden cardiac arrests occur in sleep where there is no chance of a defibrillator saving them. Elite sports people must have heart screens in order to compete internationally and comply with guidelines. Sport and exercise can exacerbate an underlying condition 3 fold.

An ECG interpreted by a specialist can diagnose an abnormality with at least 96% accuracy which will lead to appropriate interventions, a managed return to sport and a healthy future. 1 in 300 screened will be found to have a life-threatening condition. Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) has over 100,000 on its waitlist. Clarissa's Campaign will work with the NHS and CRY to fund an initiative in SW London to increase capacity for 4500 active people to be screened through grassroots sports clubs.
