Our streets are designed for cars, not people. This is driving climate change -transport is the UK’s largest source of carbon emissions and congestion. Air pollution causes around 29,000 premature deaths a year. Urban streets lack greenery, reducing biodiversity and resilience to climate impacts like heatwaves and flooding. Barriers to walking include uneven pavements, unsafe crossings and pavement parking. 38% of road fatalities and 25% of serious road injuries in England are pedestrians.

Living Streets exists to solve these challenges by reducing car dependency, cutting emissions, and creating greener, people-first streets. Through our Local Group Network we can redesign safer streets that are more vibrant for all communities. We will advocate and campaign for real change to make walking the natural choice, improve air quality, and restore nature to urban spaces—delivering measurable climate impact and healthier communities.
