Historically, people of all ages with learning disabilities have faced poor life chances, largely due to social exclusion. Society has created places for people with learning disabilities to go, they are often segregated with few opportunities to demonstrate social worth. They’ve struggled with acceptance; facing stigmatisation & prejudice. Limited opportunities for meaningful social interaction between wider public & people with learning disabilities can allow misconceptions to persist.

Our mission is to raise everyone's expectations of what people with learning disabilities can achieve. Gosforth Civic Theatre is an aspirational cultural venue that provides opportunities to bring people with learning disabilities and members of the public together. “We wanted to provide something for the community, instead of it being the other way around… here people can see that we’ve got skills, that we can be useful" - Ed, Founding Company Member, and Trustee with lived experience
