Too many children miss out on hands-on science and heritage learning because museum experiences aren’t designed for all bodies and minds. At the Brunel Museum, some key activities are currently physically inaccessible, and neurodiverse pupils often lack sensory support. In our diverse urban area with limited STEAM opportunities, this means some local schools and pupils are excluded from fully engaging with the inspiring science and heritage beneath their own neighbourhood.

We’re adding to our schools programme so every child can take part. By creating accessible sensory bags, and by training our facilitators in inclusive practice, we’ll bring hands-on science and heritage directly to all learners. This approach removes physical and sensory barriers, supports diverse needs, and opens up the Brunel Museum’s story to more schools, pupils, and teachers in our local community.
