Our gardens are a treasure chest of plants that bring us joy, benefit wildlife, are part of our history and a vital resource for the future. But thousands disappear each year. We'll protect them by growing our living library of National Collections and sharing knowledge and skills to care for them.

We're losing thousands of much loved plants in the UK every year. These plants bring us joy and are as much a part of our heritage as artworks. They also matter for biodiversity and our future resilience to climate change: protecting genetic diversity is vital and if we let them disappear, they will be gone forever. Plants in gardens might seem safer than those in the wild, but they are threatened: more than half are no longer for sale, so we need your help to save this green treasure.
We'll protect these special plants through our flagship conservation scheme: the National Plant Collections®. Thanks to the hard work of our thousands of members and hundreds of volunteers, this living library is protecting 100,000 plants so far, including plants extinct in the wild. We urgently need to expand this to save more plants and protect collections from climate risks, to recruit and train more volunteers, teach green skills like propagation and make our unique data more accessible.
